FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Clearing times, required documents, bonded warehousing and transit cargo, explained plainly.
Clearing times
How long does customs clearance take?
It depends on the goods, the border post, how complete the documents are and whether ZIMRA selects the consignment for examination. The single biggest factor within your control is paperwork: when we receive complete, accurate documents before the cargo arrives, we can prepare and pre-clear the entry in advance. Send us your documents and we will give you a realistic estimate for your shipment.
Can my goods be cleared before they reach the border?
In most cases the entry can be prepared and lodged ahead of arrival, which shortens the time your truck spends at the border. Send us your documents as soon as the goods are loaded and we will start straight away.
What causes delays at the border?
The most common causes are missing or inconsistent documents, incorrect values or descriptions, goods that need a permit that has not been obtained, and duties that have not been paid. We check for these before the cargo moves so they can be fixed early.
Documents
Which documents do I need to import goods into Zimbabwe?
At a minimum you will need a commercial invoice, a packing list and the transport document (a bill of lading, air waybill, rail consignment note or road manifest). Depending on the goods you may also need import permits or licences, a certificate of origin and proof of payment. Use our documents checklist as a starting point and confirm the final list with us for your specific cargo.
Which documents do I need to export from Zimbabwe?
Exports generally need a commercial invoice, a packing list, an export declaration and a CD1 exchange control form, plus any export permits or certificates your product requires, such as phytosanitary certificates for fresh produce. We will confirm the exact requirements for your goods and destination.
Do I need to know my HS code?
No. If you know the tariff (HS) code, include it. If you do not, give us a clear description of the goods and we will classify them for you.
Can you tell me how much duty I will pay?
We do not publish a duty calculator, because duty depends on the exact classification, value, origin and any rebates that apply, and a rough figure can be misleading. Send us your invoice and a description of the goods and we will work out an estimate based on your actual consignment.
Bonded warehousing
What is a bonded warehouse?
A bonded warehouse is a storage facility licensed by customs where imported goods can be kept without paying duty until they are cleared for local use or re-exported. Duty becomes payable only when the goods leave the bond for the local market.
When does bonded storage make sense?
It is useful when you want to defer duty until the goods are sold, when you are still arranging permits or payment, or when some of the consignment will be re-exported. Talk to us about your cargo and we will advise whether bonded or general warehousing suits it better.
What is Removal In Bond?
Removal In Bond (RIB) lets uncleared goods travel under customs control from the border to an inland customs station or a bonded warehouse, where clearance is completed. It allows your cargo to keep moving rather than wait at the port of entry.
Transit cargo
Can you handle cargo that is only passing through Zimbabwe?
Yes. Transit cargo facilitation is one of our core services. We lodge the transit entry at the border where the cargo enters, monitor it across the country and acquit the entry at the border where it exits.
Do you meet drivers at the border?
Yes. Our border attendance team works directly with drivers, presents documents, attends inspections and follows each consignment until it is released.
Working with us
Which border posts do you cover?
We serve nine points: Beitbridge, Forbes, Plumtree, Nyamapanda, Chirundu, Victoria Falls and Kazungula border posts, plus Harare Airport and Harare Kurima House.
Can I track my shipment online?
We do not have an automated online tracking system. Instead, send us a shipment status enquiry with your reference, bill of lading or air waybill number and our operations team will reply with the current status.
How do I get a quote?
Complete the quote request form or send the details on WhatsApp. The more we know about the cargo, route and documents, the more accurate the quote will be.
What are your payment terms?
We work on cash or account terms. Account facilities are arranged with our team.
